Celebration Concert - Slagzin
The lights dimmed, the children sat forward in their seat, and the magic of Slagzin began. Slagzin treated our Children’s House, Primary, and Middle School students to
a trip across the globe through pantomime, performance, and spellbinding percussion. It was a perfect kick-off to the school’s 15 year anniversary celebration!
The adventure for the students began with a bus trip from their school location to the community center of Wezembeek-Oppem, De Kam. There all of the students found their seats in the auditorium where the house lights dimmed and the colorful stage lights illuminated the three performers of Slagzin.
The storyline took students to Europe, Africa, North America, and Asia. The rat-tat-tat of the snare drums, the boom of the Japanese taiko drums, the lightness of the xylophone, and the thundering roar of the timpani were the sights and sounds used to transfer students to the various locales of our globe.
Our older students appreciated the artistry, technicality, and professionalism of the concert while the younger students reveled in the unique sights and sounds of this live show. Giggles and applause were heard throughout the 45 minute show and at the end, the audience was invited to join the performers on stage to accompany the closing song with maracas, tambourines, and wooden clappers.
Between the first and second performance of the Slagzin show (in order to accommodate all of our students, two shows were given) our Primary and Middle School students welcomed the incoming Children’s House students with an arch and a song. The arch was a human one with children holding hands with a partner creating a snake like tunnel through the courtyard of De Kam into the hall. The song was “Our School at the Corner of the Street,”—an original composition especially written for the International Montessori School during the five year anniversary celebration.
Having all four of the school locations together on this Friday morning made it a special and unique moment—sharing the common experience of laughter and music!
