Montessori
The Montessori concept was developed by Dr. Maria Montessori and was hence named after her. However this system of education does not follow a specific person but it follows the true nature the child. Maria Montessori observed many characteristics in children, which are now proven by research. Her message was that instead of making children fit the system, education actually needs to be organized around the child in such a way that a child can develop completely and harmoniously.
Children need to develop a good self-esteem, a healthy imagination, a love for learning, independence, intelligence and decision making powers. By means of having attractive classrooms and teachers who are in tune with each individual child, a Montessori environment provides opportunity for growth in all these areas!! With this philosophy, participants hope to create a world-wide ripple effect! Individuals with a good self-esteem, become happy and balanced members of society. They will be able to look at the past, observe today and make the right decisions for the future!
0-6 age range
Maria Montessori saw it of great importance to give children at each level exactly what they developmentally need. The development is not a straight line, the environment needs to be in tune with and provide for the development of the characteristics at that specific time. Young children need concrete experiences. These help the child to explore the real world. Appropriate concrete experiences are the basis of a good language development and stimulate the brain in building up and consolidating neuron networks. Montessori knew that the brain develops through the hands!!
Many activities in the classroom have a cause and effect. This helps the child to integrate his physical movements with his mind. It also sets logical limits to actions that helps the child.
6-15 age range
Montessori education is very compatible to the traditional system of education. At the Primary and Middle School level it offers a complete and extensive curriculum, paying attention to all integrated subjects. However, it offers a lot more!!
It is "Education for Life" Children are prepared for life, we give them not only knowledge, but help with the development of characteristics and skills they will need in order to live a happy, balanced personal and professional life.
Self-esteem
Montessori education pays a lot of attention to the development of self-esteem. An individual who feels good about himself, will be able to adapt to the changing world around him and will also be able to adapt to living and working with people belonging to other cultures.
A good self-image is the basis of a well functioning, happy and successful person.
