Teenagers; a wonderful age! Who says “negative”? They are motivated and interested. After having worked for several years together, we start to wonder if rebellion is a characteristic of this age or a response to the traditional approach of education. Teenagers need a reciprocal relationship with the adults. They need to feel accepted and loved. They already doubt and criticize themselves. They do not need others to do that as well! Our Middle School consists of a small group with a maximum of 15 adolescents working with a home teacher and a league of specialists who promote their profession. The children feel their passion and their dedication to the topic. All subjects are presented in this enthusiastic manner that rubs of on the students. Teenagers also love going to school when there is respect for their well-being and they are being challenged with a potpourri of interesting food for thought!
Subject content follows the end terms of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program and therefore students are given the opportunity to work in different languages. They choose the level of language by adding them to their package as Language A, B or as one or more additional ones!
Multilingualism is a way to be at the Montessori school. Many students come in mono- or bilingual and leave multilingual.
The Middle School also provides a very practical component. Adolescents want to understand how the adult society works and are willing to develop the skills necessary to contribute!
They are supported and helped in developing their independence at all levels. This is why, amongst many other activities, they cook for the younger children, organize carwashes, organize and carry the responsibility for small and extended outings, are actively involved with holiday camps and provide the catering in our Parent Café.
Public speaking and awareness of the political world and institutions is emphasized through direct contact with the EU. We live in the heart of Europe and use it. The students have had the chance to attend and speak at several high level conferences!Becoming part of society whilst feeling accepted and trusted is what we offer to those adolescents. To do that properly and to the utmost, we insist on keeping a coherent and small group in which each teenager maintains and strengthens his or hers important unique individualistic characteristics! Teenagers spin a cocoon.
We help them to emerge as beautiful butterflies!
