Boomerang for a clean Tervuren
Boomerang along for a clean Tervuren
25 March
Arriving on a Wednesday afternoon at an empty, drizzly Tervuren square sowed a few seeds of doubt concerning the go-ahead of the kick-off initiative of the ‘Boomerang along for a clean Tervuren’ of the Tervuren council amongst the International Montessori delegation, consisting of Anne and Tijs Zijl, Sasha Thijs, Alessandro Celebi and Maaike Blindenbach. Whilst practising their paper boomerangs, their initial hesitation disappeared when they saw mayor Bruno Eulaerts and some of his colleagues appearing, leading a peleton of camera men, journalists and a gentleman in Australian bushman outfit.
The children, amongst another sixty participants, could swap their paper boomerang for a blue, plastic one and follow some initiation instructions of the experts. Unfortunately there was quite some wind and the majority of the boomerangs decided to live a life on their own. Therefore caution was needed.
Once Prince Laurent, Princess Claire and Princess Louise arrived the real action could start; the cameras started clicking, the microphones appeared, the pencil and paper pads were filled up and the strategic positions were chosen. For further information it is best to go the website of the commune where you can find the relevant newspaper articles, the photo gallery and a short explanation of the tidy-up Tervuren initiative, and you might discover the real purpose of this afternoon. Alessandro and Sasha appear on one the photos.
