Taiko Drumming
Taiko Drumming
The comment of the caretaker of Diependal Sport centre summarized the Taiko experience of the students of the Primary and Middle School sections very well ‘This is quite something.’ Fortunately, the sport centre is a solid structure, because the selection of 22 drums challenged the foundations of the building in all its aspects.
The vast majority of the children enjoyed the lessons given by Grete, who adjusted the intensity of the drumming well to the different age groups. The children discovered after some time that the fundamental basis of enjoyable Taiko is to be balanced, well centered and grounded. The rest follows by itself.
With use of the mirrors, Grete showed the children, how to work the drums and slowly become one with them. Constantly crossing the lateral line, both parts of the brain became engaged and with the help of short yells, a controlled form of dance and the two sticks, a twenty minute session proofed to be just right for the youngest children, whilst the older ones extended their practice close to forty-five minutes.
In the near future, more action on these impressive instruments can be experienced by you. In the meantime, already a short video clip can be seen in the section ‘Video’.
