Intro and Info Sessions
Intro and Info Sessions
During the months of September and October parents of the different centres were able to attend a variety of informative evenings. Not only the day-to-day routines were explained, the educational tools displayed, but also the reasons behind the educational approach were addressed. Parents new to the school had the opportunity to deepen their understanding of this profound form of educating children. Also families, whose children have already attended the school for some years, came along and enjoyed the refreshing and positive outlook on child development. During some sessions the characteristics of a particular age were highlighted and functioned as a guide to the methods, techniques and approaches applied when working with the children. In Tervuren this was illustrated with the silhouette of a child whose characteristics became more and more clear, whilst in Woluwé the windows and doors of a farm were one by one opened, showing what happens on the inside.
The info session ‘Education on the Cutting Edge’ showed that what is practised on a daily level with the children is supported by a variety of current researches. The educational innovators of early last century such as Décroly, Steiner, Freinet, Peter Petersen and also Maria Montessori, could at the time scientifically not prove what they felt was right for the furtherance of human kind. Today, the initiatives they brought into practise already during the after days of the industrial revolution are the core principles of the education for the 21st Century.
