15 Year Birthday Party

The Upper Primary students and teachers were unusually quiet leading up to Friday 11 January.  That was because they were planning a surprise 15 year birthday party for the school!

The Lower Primary class and school administration were invited to the Upper Primary class for a shared meal of pancakes and drinks.  The Upper Primary students manned three pancake booths which served up warm crepes with a variety of yummy toppings.  More than 55 students and adults ate their meals picnic-style in the Upper Primary classroom.

The surprises did not end there.

The Upper Primary initiated the traditional Montessori birthday custom of walking the Earth around the sun 15 times, representing the 15 revolutions around the sun since the school’s inception.  Our school’s founders, Annie and Rinze Hoekstra, were the guests of honor and carriers of the globe around the sun (in this case a colorful assortment of fruit kebabs arranged like sun rays).  With each revolution, Rinze told the story of the school for that particular year.  It was a walk down memory lane for everyone and a perfect way to commemorate this very special time in our school’s history.
